Gary Ross har nu pratat med EW (Entertainment Weekly) och sagt att The Hunger Games kommer att släppas den 23 mars 2012, alltså om drygt ett år! Han har även sagt att dom kommer börja med inspelningarna senare i vår. Visst känns det spännande med sådana här nyheter?!

Hugh Laurie kommer INTE att spela Haymitch.

Tidigare har Hugh Laurie varit en het kandidat till rollen som Haymitch. The Hob har vart i kontakt med Lauries publicist som meddelat att Hugh Laurie för tillfället då han är under filminspelning och har fler på tur.

Debra Zane har blivit utvald till Casting Director för The Hunger Games filmen! Hon har tidigare jobbat med regissören Gary Ross under två av hans tidigare filmer.

Hailee Steinfeld - Katniss Everdeen?

Just nu går det mycket snack om att Hailee Steinfeld skull passa som Katniss. Hon är 14 år gammal och är med i den Oscars-nominerade filmen True Grit. Hailee har i en intervju sagt att hon ser fram emot att gå på audition för just Katniss-rollen!

EW: Are you already hearing from kids who are afraid you’re going to screw up their favorite book?
Ross: [Laughs] I just received 150 letters from the Frenship Middle School near Lubbock, Texas. The reading-program teacher got them to all write me letters. So many of them wrote, “Listen, I know this is an action movie and I can’t wait to see the action but please don’t lose the heart of the story.” The death of Rue is mentioned by every kid who reads the book. It’s funny because I realize the letters are from Lubbock, Texas, which is where Buddy Holly was from. So in a way it’s the birthplace of American teenage rebellion. Isn’t that cool?

EW: Did they give you useful advice?
Ross: A lot of them talked about “Don’t mess with the colors.” I think they didn’t want me to pump it full of contrast or desaturate the movie or make it gratuitously edgy in a visual way. I think kids are hipper to clichés than we are sometimes.

EW: How much CGI will be involved? I imagine you’ll need some for the Muttations, the book’s genetically altered creatures?
Ross: It’s funny because the Lubbock kids—back to Lubbock, I’m dying to go to this school!—also expressed how important it was for me to adequately render the Muttations. And yes, we will.
Obviously they’re one of the larger technical challenges, but they will be animated CG characters.

EW: What scene do you most look forward to shooting?
Ross: I can’t wait to shoot the firestorm from a filmmaking perspective. I can’t wait to do the relationship with Rue— both developing the relationship between Katniss and Rue and also the poignancy of Rue’s funeral. How Katniss decorates her body with flowers? I mean, it’s just so beautiful.

Gary Ross är officiell regissör för Hunger Games filmen

Nu är det officiellt! Gary Ross kommer att regissera HG filmen! I EW pratar han en del om vem de vill ska spela Katniss, och de verkar överrens om att de inte vill ha någon som redan är känd. De frågar även om rollen för bl.a. Haymitch, och Ross lovar att vi får veta snart! Spännande!

The rumors are true. Director Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) will direct the Lionsgate adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first installment of Suzanne Collins’ brilliantly urgent dystopian trilogy. In his first conversation anywhere about the film, which Lionsgate told EW will likely go into production in the late spring of 2011, Ross was funny, passionate, and sounded as deeply impressed and moved by heroine Katniss Everdeen as the trilogy’s ardent fans.

Ross revealed that he hadn’t yet met with any actresses but would begin those conversations shortly. Admirers of Katniss, District 12′s dark and resilient “Tribute,” can rest assured that the director won’t dumb the character down or cutesy her up for the movie. “I’ve talked to Suzanne extensively and I feel like I understand the character really, really well,” he said. “I feel like I know who that girl needs to be.”

Budget till HG filmen är 60 miljoner dollar

I EW har det nu skrivits om budgeten för Hunger Games filmen, och det sägs att det är 60 miljoner dollar!

Kickstarting a movie franchise based on a bestselling book series is tricky business. For every Harry Potter, there’s an Eragon (and a Percy Jackson, and a Series of Unfortunate Events). The filmed version of The Golden Compass cost close to $200 million — a huge expenditure that didn’t pay off. It looks like the makers of the upcoming Hunger Games movie are taking a slightly more conservative approach: according to a report on the Baseline Intel blog from the American Film Market, the film will have a budget of roughly $60 million. That’s about $20 million more than the budget of the first Twilight, but hey, the first Twilight didn’t feature a lavish future metropolis. Do you think it’s enough?
